Sustaining and sharing economic growth in Tanzania
The book highlights the Tanzanian government’s far reaching macroeconomic and structural reforms and increased spending, which have driven economic growth. It also describes the inevitable need for a transition from public to private sector-led growth. This shift will require Tanzania to substantially strengthen its international competitiveness and to accelerate structural change while also safeguarding the environment and maintaining macroeconomic stability. If high rates of growth can be sustained, Tanzania’s prospects for poverty reduction and significant progress toward the Millennium Development Goals look promising.
