Private voluntary health insurance: consumer protection and prudential regulation
The recent global crisis in the financial sector has demonstrated the need for good prudential regulation to govern financial institutions, including health insurance funds. The authors of this volume highlight that, when it comes to regulation of health insurance, more is not necessarily better. And good regulation by itself is not enough. Such regulation needs to be underpinned by a strong policy framework to protect not just patiens but the financial institutions themselves. Striking the balance between not enough, too much, and the wrong kind is a central theme in this volume.
