Ecological Restoration: Principles, Values, and Structure of an Emerging Profession
The Science and Practice of Ecological Restoration Book Series is intended to serve a broad audience of people who are active in the field of ecological restoration or who have special interested in it. Of the twelve previously issued volumes in this series, most have emphasized restoration science and its applications but not the process of doing ecological restoration projects. These volumes were intended largely for teachers, students, and researchers. Other volumes are more practical but address practitioners, trainees, and students who work in specific bioclimatic regions, such as Cascadia, in western North America, or very specific context such as old fields (abondoned agricultural lands). The present book attempts to provide a more comprehensive treatment of the field for all those who are associated with restoration practice, both the programs and specific projects. We treat concepts, principles, and values that are applicable to restoration practice anywhere in the world and describe the emerging profession and the professionals of ecological restoration.
