This book is based economics growth is the most impotant driver of poverty reduction and improved living standards. Such growth, however, only occurs when firms and entrepreneurs of all types are given appropriate incentives to invest productively in human and physical capacity and to heighten the productivity of factor inputs. A strong investment climate is a platform for economic success. This central lesson of economics, altough simple, is ill-learned. Throughout the world, misguided regulations and inadequate infrastructure burden firms with unnecessary costs, considerable uncertainty and risk, and unjustified barriers to competition.
