The construction and shape of Korean ships are not to be found anywhere else. A unique feature of Korean ships is the way the side planks were assembled from bottom to top, with edges that were slightly overlapped and rabbetted for a tight fit. The usage of wooden pegs (pisae)and the props (jangsoe) that keep the sides together and support them against the pressure of the waves is also unique to the hanseon.
