Tradition and Progress 125 Years Blohm+Voss
No other shipyard is so well-known the world over as Schiffswert und Maschinenfabrik Blohm & Voss, founded in 1877 to build iron steamship. After overcoming great difficulties at the beginning, Blohm & Voss achieved a breakthrough when it won the confidence of the major German shipping lines. It then experienced unprecedented growth. Before the first world war, Blohm + Voss ran the largest single shipyard site in the world. It also achieved success in naval shipbuilding, building almost all the battle cruisers of the German imperial navy. After the end of the second wolrd war, despite dismantling and destruction, Blohm + Voss succeeded in regaining its outstanding position in shipbuilding as well as engineering, doing justice to its motto of tradition and progress up to the present day, its latest developments being fast monohull ships and in naval shipbuilding the MEKO frigates and corvettes, which have meanwhile been ordered by many friendly navies.
