Building e-government through reform

Electronic government is one of the most frequently mentioned themes in the public sector reform. Since public perceptions of bureaucracy became more negative in advanced countries in 1980s, a strong demand for government reform has been shared among the public at large in Korea as well as some advanced countries. A response to this is e-government. Especially, during the last ten years information technologu has been flourishing, those countries have been pursuing competitive the public sector reform through e-government under the New Public Management imperatives which oriented to small but efficient, doing more with less, government structure and operation. This book examines efforts of the public sector reform ans establishing electronic government in Kore since 1990s. There are 7 Chapters that talks about: Introduces theories and practices of the public sector reform and e-government;Public sector reform in Korea that was performed by Kim dae-Jung and Roh Moo-Hyun;Local government reform;Examines the background,processes,and limititations of government reform and e-government at the local government level in Korea since 1990s;Determines of successful e-government;Transparency issue in relation to e-government activities;and Burgeoning importance of information systems outsourcing, which has become a critical issue at the city government level in the United States, which was worked with Dr. Kim Yong-Mi.
