This book discusses the history of human bondage and slavery in Southeast Asia.
It contains six chapters explaining memories and remnants of slavery, serfdom and peonage, debt bondage, compulsory public service, labor relations in modern enterprise, including appendices of historical forms of human bondages in Siam, slavery and debt bondage in Sarawak a hundred years ago, bondage through worker indebtness in the Batik industry of Java, compulsory labor under Japanese occupation, involuntary labor, and international action in combating labor compulsion.
This book is suitable for research in Southeast Asian history, Colonial and Japanese law, and history of slavery in Asia.
