Imperialism and Chinese Politics
This book discusses the political relations between the imperialist powers and semi-colonial China over a period from the Opium War (1840-1842) to the First Revolutionary Civil War (1925-1927). The book consists of six chapters about the establishment of new relationships (1840-1864), the myth of "regeneration" as toadying to the foreigners (1864-1894), the "foreigners' court" (1894-1911), the "strong man" (1911-1916 and 1916-1919), and revolution and counter-revolution (1919-1924). This book is suitable for research on Chinese politics in 1840-1927.
