This book is an autobiography of Knatchbull-Hugessen, a British diplomat. The book consists of 17 chapters about the author's background and early life, life in foreign office in London (1908-1914), Paris Conference (1915-1919), general refelctions on diplomatic service, the Hague (1919-1923), counsellor in Brussels and Paris (1923-1930), Minister in the Baltic States (1930-1934) and Persia (1934-1936), ambassador in China (1936-1947), Turkey (1939-1944), general refelctions on the Middle East, ambassador in Belgium and minister in Luxemburg (1944-1947). The book is suitable for research on British foreign relations in the 1900s to 1950s.
