The book consists of 12 chapters and three appendices about the ideal and realty of the new party (to 1906), a pressure-group under pressure (1906-1914), war and reconstruction of Henderson's party (1914-1922), the MacDonald leadership (1922-1931), the General Council's party and convalescence (1931-1940), office abd power under Attlee and Bevin (1940-1950), dissension and decline (1950-1960), the road back to power (1960-1966), Wilson and the vicissitudes of economic insolvency (1966-1970), the common market and the social contract (1970-1979), the SDP secession and the dream ticket (1979-1984), and the past and the future. This book is suitable for research on the history of British labor party from before 1906 until 1984.
