This book is introduction to Korean mask dance. It explain briefly what Korean mask dance is all about and explores its roots as a form of drama. The two tasks may at first seem incompatible but readers need to understand the essence of this unique form of drama if they are to enjoy it properly, instead of just looking at it with fleeting curiosity.
This book represent the first attempt by more than two dozen leading Korean sociology professors to co-author a study of Korean society. While the 31 essays contained in the first volume were all written by foreign scholars, the 30 essays featured here are all authored by Korean scholars. As such, it offers a detailed account of Korea’s transformation as seen from within.
